Play & Pretend: JP: 5. Good Enough - Story
Many children are rigid in their mindsets when it comes to participating in sports, cultural, or play activities. This story introduces the concept of good- enough thinking, which is to remind children that they only need to be good-enough at something to be able to join in and enjoy it. Statistically speaking, most children don’t go on to develop excellence in something and become professionals in their childhood extramural activities. This story aims to normalize the different levels of participation in activities. Being average at something is okay. Joining in for the fun of the activity is also okay. Striving to become better at something is also okay for those that choose to do so. The Good Enough Ladder is a visual representation of the different levels of participation. Children learn that with extra practice and drive, they can improve, but they only have to be good-enough to join in and have fun.
