This story assists children in understanding the importance of mindfulness as a healthy coping strategy. Mindfulness is the about being aware of our internal and external experiences. It is the ability to be in the present instead of focussing on the past or worrying about the future. To be mindful, we draw our attention to our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress; boost mood; increase blood flow to the brain; improve concentration; increase self awareness and improve self regulation. This story explains what mindfulness is and the importance of mindfulness practice every day. It gives children examples of ways they can practice mindfulness in their every day lives.
